PATHOLOGIST

Pathologists are experts in disease, anatomy, and physiology. They are the person that helps figure out if an animal is currently sick by running and examining laboratory diagnostics, how to control the spread of disease (even to humans if the disease is zoonotic) and exactly what caused an animal’s death by performing a necropsy (autopsy for non-human animals) on most zoo animals that have died. Pathologists often have veterinary degrees. They work closely with Veterinarians to help the health of all the animals (human and non) in a zoo.
