PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST

Zoos need to communicate with the general public about their animals, conservation efforts, and visitor information. Public relations specialists help spread the word by pitching stories to reporters, writing press releases and blog posts, publishing social media content, and working with media outlets (newspaper, TV, radio, etc.). They are often the public face of a zoo, acting as spokespeople and responding to interview requests. These specialists may have writing, editing, reporting, photography, videography, and public speaking skills. They typically have a college degree in print or broadcast journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field. Like any zoo profession, a passion for animals and conservation is key!
