Mayra is a Conservation Interpreter Presenter at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo where her main job is guest interaction. She interprets training sessions between the keepers and animals to the public, highlighting aspects such as the exhibit, the animals, and a conservation message. She has also translated her English presentations into Spanish and has been conducting the Spanish presentations ever since, allowing her to reach more of her community. Mayra also does “guest enrichment” where she gives mini presentations with props to pass along conservation messages to guests on a more intimate level.

Mayra’s favorite part of her job is being able to teach guests while making them laugh. She also loves being able to include the Hispanic community with her Spanish presentations, allowing for a greater reach with her education. Mayra says to apply to any job that you want and don’t doubt yourself! She doubted she could stand in front of a crowd herself but now it’s something she loves to do.
